Mammoth Lakes is surrounded by two million acres (809,371 ha) of Inyo National Forest that includeds the pristine John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses. The number of trails to choose from may overwhelm you, but it will be nothing compared to the vistas, fields of wildflowers and granite peaks seen from the trails. Favorite areas for hiking include: the Mammoth Lakes Basin and Red Madow.
As always, be prepared. Check weather, bring a map, water, food, sunscreen and extra clothing. The weather is known to change quickly in the area.
