Forest Closure Information

INYO NATIONAL FOREST CLOSES PUBLIC FACILITIES Mammoth Lakes is not under threat of fire. The closure is meant to free up fire fighting resources and keep visitors safe during a time when fire personnel is moving away from the Inyo National Forest and into other need areas in the West.


Much of the public land in the Mammoth Lakes area is closed to recreation now through September 17, 2021. View the PRESS RELEASE from the Inyo National Forest for more details.

 


What’s open in Mammoth Lakes?

At this time, the following activities are open in the Mammoth Lakes area:

Mammoth Adventure Center – open through Labor Day Weekend
Yosemite National Park – pre-booked permit required
Bodie State Historic Park
Mono Lake access via County Park (the South Tufa and Navy Beach access points are closed)
Manzanar National Historic Site
Death Valley
Sierra Star Golf Course
Snowcreek Golf Course
Whitmore Pool (lap swim only)
Volcom Brothers Skate Park
Virginia Lakes
Twin Lakes in Bridgeport
Bridgeport Reservoir

Is camping allowed near Mammoth Lakes?

All U.S. National Forest campgrounds, which includes the majority of campgrounds in Mammoth Lakes, as well as Camp High Sierra, are closed.

Are events in Mammoth Lakes still happening?

At this time, events in Mammoth Lakes are still scheduled to continue as planned. Check the events calendar for what’s happening in the coming weeks.

Where can I go fishing?

All lakes on the Inyo National Forest are closed to fishing and other water activities. The following waters are open to fishing, boating and paddling at this time:

Twin Lakes in Bridgeport (boat rentals available)
Bridgeport Reservoir (boat rentals available)
Virginia Lakes (boat rentals available)
Crowley Lake (boat rentals available)
Owens River

Where can I go biking?

Road biking in Mammoth Lakes is still permitted. Many local retailers have a variety of bikes available to rent.
